Bonfire Wonky Toffee Apples
Try this classic toffee apple recipe for bonfire night. Not a fan of toffee? Try our chocolate version with cocoa nibs and mini marshmallows.
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Total time: 20 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients:
6 Apples
200 g Golden caster sugar
For the chocolate apples:
200 g Dark chocolate
For the toppings (optional):
Mini marshmallows
Cacao nibs
seeds and nuts of your choice
Sea salt
Recipe:
- Carefully push a fork into the top of each apple, through the core, until secure. Rest the apples, fork-up, on a lined baking tray.
- Add the golden caster sugar to a medium-sized saucepan and heat on low until the sugar dissolves. Try to not stir it at all – just swirl it gently in the pan. It's ready when the caramel is golden. Making chocolate-covered apples instead? Melt your chocolate now.
- Work quickly to dip each apple (using the fork) into the caramel or chocolate. Be very careful not to touch the caramel – it's very hot. You might need to tip the pan to make sure you coat the apples evenly. Repeat quickly with the other apples.
